Citizenship

Citizenship of the Republic of Moldova is defined according to Moldovan legislation in force as a standing politico-juridical connection between a person and Republic of Moldova, which generates mutual rights and duties.

 

Moldovan citizenship is reserved both on the territory of the Republic of Moldova and on the territory of other countries. Also is reserved on the territory on which the sovereignty of any other state is not exercised.

 

ACQUISITIONOF MOLDOVAN CITIZENSHIP THROUGH ACKNOWLEDGEMENT

 

A person who intends to apply for the citizenship of the Republic of Moldova, according to clause a), c) part(2) article 12 of the Citizenship Law of the Republic of Moldova, dated 02.06.2000, and who resides legally and permanently abroad, has to apply to Moldovan diplomatic/consular mission in country of residence or Consular Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration, presenting thereby, the following documents:

 

  • Application-questionnaire in the name of the President of the Republic of Moldova;
  • copy of the birth certificate;
  • copy of the birth certificate of one of the parents, ancestors;
  • copy of identity card;
  • criminal record certificate from country of residence;
  • marital status certificate;
  • 4 photographs (4,5x3,5cm)

 

The application is examined according to Moldovan legislation in force up to three months.

 

ACQUISITION OF MOLDOVAN CITIZENSHIP THROUGH NATURALIZATION

 

A person who intends to apply for the citizenship of the Republic of Moldova through naturalization, according to article 17 of the Citizenship Law of the Republic of Moldova, dated 02.06.2000, and who resides legally and permanently abroad, has to apply to Moldovan diplomatic/consular mission in country of residence or Consular Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration, presenting thereby, the following documents:

 

  • Application-questionnaire in the name of the President of the Republic of Moldova;
  • Autobiography, which comprises period of residence in the Republic of Moldova, period of permanent residence abroad, information concerning marital status, place of residence, labour activity, information concerning relatives: parents, spouse, children;
  • Marital status certificate from the place of residence;
  • evidence of fee payment;
  • 4 photographs (4,5x3,5cm);
  • certificate regarding the non affiliation to the citizenship which the person had before or certificate of alienage;
  • Reference letter from the place of work or study. Persons, who are unemployed, bring income certificate (pension, scholarship, family allowance, children’s allowance, bank deposit, unemployment benefit);
  • Moldovan language and Constitution examination certificate, except as provided for in part (2) of the Article 18th of the Citizenship Law of the Republic of Moldova, dated 02.06.2000;
  • copy of identity card or other evidence of residing on the territory of the Republic of Moldova or evidence of marriage with Moldovan citizen;
  • Criminal records certificate from the country of residence.

 

The application is examined according to Moldovan legislation in force.

 

RESTITUTION OF MOLDOVAN CITIZENSHIP

 

A person who intends to retrieve the citizenship of the Republic of Moldova and who resides legally and permanently abroad, has to apply to Moldovan diplomatic/consular mission in country of residence or Consular Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration, presenting thereby, the following documents:

 

  • Application-questionnaire in the name of the President of the Republic of Moldova;
  • Autobiography, which comprises period of residence in the Republic of Moldova, period of permanent residence abroad, information concerning marital status, place of residence, labour activity, information concerning relatives (parents, spouse, children), cause of denaturalization;
  • Marital status certificate from the place of residence;
  • Certificate of alienage or copy of such decision with respect to Moldovan citizenship;
  • copy of identity card;
  • evidence of fee payment;
  • 4 photographs (4,5x3,5cm);
  • Criminal records certificate from the country of residence.

 

CITIZENSHIP FEES

 

Citizenship fees are collected in accordance with the Ordinance of the Government of the Republic Moldova, dated September, 21st, 2000, regarding the collection of consular fees.
