During the entire stage of the diplomatic relations, the political dialogue between the Republic of Moldova and the State Israel was designated by numerous events, within the framework of various events at the higher level, which included a number of visits of the leadership of Moldova to Israel, and so the reciprocal visits to Moldova. Namely, these are the visits of the President of the Republic of Moldova, the Chairmen of Parliament, of different ministers. The current stage shows that the bilateral relations are developing at all levels, which first of all became possible because of the deepening of political connections at the higher level, noted by the visit of the President of Israel M. Katsav to Moldova in 2003, and by the visit of President of Moldova V. Voronin to Israel in 2004.
These outstanding events strengthened the political dialogue between the two countries and gave impetus to the development of collaboration in all directions both in the bilateral framework and in the plan of the mutual backing within the framework of international organizations.
So it is worthwhile to note the visit of the Minister of Agriculture of Israel to Moldova in connection with the starting of important investment projects. As a proof of the qualitatively new level of Moldova - Israeli relations can serve the visit to Israel of the Deputy Prime-Minister Moldova V. Cristea for the purpose of conducting the first meeting of the Joint Moldovan Israeli Commission on commercial and economic cooperation. Another outstanding event in the bilateral relations, conducted in Chisinau, in June 2005, was the first round of the political consultations at the level of the Deputy foreign Ministers. The political dialog was further strengthened by the recent official visits to Israel of the Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration Andrei Stratan in November 2006 and of the Minister of Health Mr. I.Ababii in 2007. Bilateral collaboration is manifested also, at the level of the local authority, for example, between Chisinau and Tel Aviv cities. In this context it has to be mentioned the mutual visits of mayors and the subsequent agreements to become twin cities.
The current political dialogue emphasizes the fact that the Republic of Moldova and State Israel share common positions with respect to the different global issues, as combating terrorism, separatism and anti-Semitism, which imperil international stability and peace. Both countries are ready to put efforts to eliminate the sources that support the terrorism. Moldova will support Israel in all its endeavours both in the bilateral and in the multilateral organizations, in the fight against terrorism. The State of Israel is ready to assist Moldova in different issues. Political dialog is strengthened by the collaboration within the framework of the international organizations, especially United Nations.
The Republic of Moldova supported in 2002 the representative of the State Israel in the elections into the Commission on Human Rights, the Committee on the eradication of the racial discrimination and the Committee on the eradication of women discrimination. In 2005, the Republic of Moldova supported the candidature of Israel as the member of committee on the world heritage UNESCO. So Moldova, will obtain the support of Israel on the elections of the Moldova candidature in ECOSOC in 2007.
An important aspect of the Moldova-Israeli relations is the Parliamentary dimension that is enhanced due the collaboration between the Parliamentary Friendship Group Moldova- Israel, headed by the member of the Knesset L. Shemtov and the member of Moldovan Parliament A. Pasecinic. The parliamentary friendship group is meant to create a positive framework for the advance of the relations between parliaments of both countries, contributing to the development of friendship, collaboration and mutual understanding between the State of Israel and the Republic of Moldova. However the major event of the parliamentary cooperation was the official visit to Israel of the Speaker of the parliament of the Republic of Moldova, Mr. M. Lupu in November 2007.
